The Hispanic Lobbyists Association (HLA), a 501 (c)(6) organization, was founded in 2006. Its mission is to advance and empower Hispanic/Latino government relations and public affairs professionals by fostering mentorship and professional development opportunities. HLA strongly believes in the importance of diversifying the profession so that it reflects the changing face of America.
Membership is calendar year and open to all individuals who self-identify with or are committed to supporting the Hispanic/Latino community and who have professional responsibilities in the field of government relations and/or public affairs.
HLA’s members are talented advocates whose expertise and knowledge make for a more informed policy making process. They work in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors; serve as community relations, external affairs, government relations, policy, and public affairs advocates; and are experts in a broad range of issues, including cybersecurity, education, energy, financial services, healthcare, media, tax, technology, and telecommunications.

Board of Directors
The HLA Board of Directors consists of the Executive Committee (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer) which start its two-year terms in January 2021. The Board of Directors also includes nine at-large members who serve one-year terms. All seats are elected by the membership.

Do I have to be a registered lobbyist to join HLA?
No. HLA membership is open to individuals who are committed to supporting our mission and have professional responsibilities in the field of government relations or public affairs.
When does my membership start/end?
HLA’s membership is calendar year. Membership starts on January 1st and ends on December 31st.
I have joined HLA. How do I get involved?
Attend our events and sign-up for one of our committees—communications, mentorship, professional development, and social.
Is my HLA membership transferable?
Individual membership is non-transferable. If a member leaves their organization, the membership goes with them.

Are my HLA membership dues tax deductible?
HLA is a 501(c)(6) organization. Your dues may be tax deductible as a business expense. Please consult your tax adviser or the IRS to determine whether your membership dues are tax deductible.
