About the Event
The Hispanic Lobbyist Association empowers Hispanic/Latino government relations and public affairs professionals by providing mentorship, professional development opportunities, and impactful programming.
Join us for a coffee chat on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM ET with Paloma Perez Christie, Director, Office of Media Relations & FCC Spokesperson. Paloma has a decade of professional experience in multicultural policy communications, regulatory policy formation and execution, Congressional relations, and creative public engagement to advance legislative, policy, and private sector objectives. She has served in senior leadership as a trusted policy advisor and communications director for two Members of Congress in the House of Representatives now sitting on the influential House Energy and Commerce Committee and serving in leadership at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, respectively.
As the eldest daughter of Spanish-speaking immigrants from Peru and Mexico, Paloma has served as a translator for as long as she can remember. That initial skillset morphed into what it is today—with an extensive background in public policy and multicultural communications shaping her into a uniquely equipped strategic public affairs professional. Now, instead of helping her parents and community members understand a tax form or a doctor's diagnosis, Paloma makes dense, often obtuse policy more easily understandable and digestible for diverse members of the public. But more than that, Paloma prides herself in finding creative ways to deliver this message to impacted audiences—whether that’s by building unique partnerships and outreach strategies, establishing or deepening relationships with influential journalists, or intentionally finding new spaces for my principals or organizations she represent to engage that may have previously been overlooked. Regardless of the setting—a U.S. House of Representatives office, a non-profit organization, public relations firm, and now an Executive Branch adjacent agency with direct Congressional oversight—Paloma brings undeniable energy, an eagerness to learn, humility, and a collaborative spirit to all that she does. Outside of work, Paloma loves to explore her neighborhood in Silver Spring, MD with her husband, meet fellow Texans, and mentor young people interested in a career in public service/politics. As a first-generation college graduate, Paloma knows she wouldn’t be where she is today without the community of mentors who guided her along the way. She does her best to do the same for others.
Come chat with Paloma and learn more about her experiences and perspectives.
