by the newly elected HLA Board according to the process indicated in the HLA By-Laws.
At-Large Board of Director Candidates (Elect 8 Members)
I. Board Positions
HLA has (5) five executive and (8) eight at-large Board of Directors positions:
President: Shall make decisions in the best interest of the organization and membership, develop and implement a strategic plan, oversee fundraising efforts, and convene regularly scheduled Board and membership meetings.
Vice President: Shall lead all aspects of membership engagement; oversee the Mentorship, Professional Development, and Social committees; and execute other duties as designated by the President or the Board.
Secretary: Shall be responsible for keeping records of the Board’s actions, including taking minutes at all Board meetings, sending out meeting announcements, distributing copies of minutes and the agenda to each Board member. Shall ensure that governance and ethics issues as determined by the Board are addressed and that operational documents are in order, including but not limited to Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation, and best practices policies.
Treasurer: Shall develop an annual budget in collaboration with the Board, maintain budget and corporate records, review fiscal procedures, oversee nonprofit tax requirements and regulations, process invoices, and provide the Board with financial and regulatory updates.
Chief of Communications: Shall be responsible for creating and managing communications between the organization, its membership, and other stakeholders through various mediums, including but not limited to social media platforms, electronic communications and press releases. Will serve as Chair of the Communications Committee.
At-large Board Members: Shall work to advance the organization’s mission, financial and programmatic goals, and participate in regularly scheduled Board meetings as well as mission-driven events.
II. Eligibility Requirements to Vote
Members current with their 2020 membership dues and in good standing shall be entitled to one (1) vote. Membership is calendar year, January 1 to December 31, 2020. Deadline to pay 2020 membership dues to be eligible to vote is Friday, November 13th at 5:00 pm EST.

To ensure our members’ safety and provide greater access for members to cast their vote, elections will be conducted online via a secure, third-party platform. Elections USA, Inc. will send login credentials to all eligible voters on Sunday, November 15th after 7 pm EST. The electronic ballots can be cast by members for a period of two weeks. Voting opens on November 16th at 9 am EST and closes on November 30th at 5 pm EST. A confirmation email will be sent to voters who have successfully cast their electronic ballot. Election results will be announced to the membership on Thursday, December 3, 2020.
IV. Election Oversight

V. Election Timeline
- Membership will be notified of candidates running for the Board by Tuesday, November 10th.
- HLA will host a Meet the Candidates forum for the HLA membership on Thursday, November 12th at 4:00 pm EST.
- Deadline to pay 2020 membership dues to be eligible to vote is Friday, November 13th at 5:00 pm EST.
- Login credentials will be sent to all eligible voting members by Elections USA, Inc. on Sunday, November 15thafter 7:00 pm EST.
- Electronic voting will begin on Monday, November 16th at 9 am EST via Elections USA, Inc. The electronic ballots can be cast by members for a period of two weeks.
- Last day to cast a ballot is Monday, November 30th, voting ends at 5 pm EST.
- Election results are announced to the membership by Maximiliano J. Trujillo on Thursday, December 3rd.
